Ivan Ortolá finished September on a high with strong results at Misano and Austria, setting him up well for the Asian leg of the season. However, Angel Piqueras was forced to pull out due to a wrist injury at the Red Bull Ring.
At the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano, an excellent level of competitiveness was demonstrated by the MSi Racing Team. The weekend got off to a promising start thanks to Angel Piqueras, who secured a superb front-row starting position in qualifying with the third-fastest time, having regained an excellent feel for his bike. Unfortunately, he retired from the race early, preventing him from capitalising on the great work he had done over the weekend. Ivan Ortolá scored important points for the team. Despite having to start from twelfth on the grid due to a qualifying mistake, the rider pulled off another impressive comeback, climbing his way up to a valuable fourth-place finish that confirmed his extraordinary consistency.
The Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring proved to be a challenging race for the MSi Racing Team. Unfortunately, the weekend was marred by Angel Piqueras crashing during the first free practice session on Friday. Medical examinations revealed a fracture of the ulnar styloid in his right wrist, forcing him to sit out the Grand Prix and undergo surgery in Valencia. The team’s colours were defended by Ivan Ortolá, who delivered an excellent performance on Saturday. This culminated in the fourth-fastest time in qualifying and a starting position on the second row. Despite not feeling quite right from the outset, Ortolá managed the race with maturity, securing a solid fifth-place finish and reaffirming his consistent presence among the leaders.
With this race, the Moto2 World Championship bids farewell to Europe for a while, beginning a series of races that will take the teams to Asia and Australia. The next Gran Prix is scheduled for 2–4 October in Japan.
