Alonso Lopez enjoyed a successful doubleheader, achieving a top-10 finish at Misano and staging an impressive comeback to secure sixth place in Austria. Meanwhile, Sergio García is aiming to make a comeback ahead of the race series in Asia and Australia.
The Grand Prix of San Marino and Rimini Riviera ended in mixed fortunes for Team Italjet Gresini Moto2, following a challenging weekend that began with the opening practice sessions. At the Misano circuit, Alonso López persevered and minimised the damage during a weekend characterised by braking issues and a disappointing qualifying session, which saw him start from the fourth row in 11th place. During the race, the Spaniard fought his way back to secure an eighth-place finish and crucial points for the overall standings, where he now sits in ninth place with 100.5 points. Meanwhile, it was an uphill battle for Sergio Garcia: hampered by cancelled times on Friday and uncertain weather on Saturday, the Spaniard was forced to start from nineteenth on the grid. Despite a strong start to the battle for points, a long-lap penalty late in the race relegated him to 18th place.
At the Red Bull Ring, the Italjet Gresini Moto2 Team regained their consistency and aggressiveness, thanks to a stellar performance from Alonso López. After securing a top 10 finish on Friday and achieving a solid seventh-place qualifying result on the second row, the Spaniard demonstrated exceptional character during the race. Despite losing several positions at the start due to a technical issue, Lopez remained composed and mounted a remarkable comeback, overtaking numerous riders to ultimately finish sixth. It was a challenging weekend for Sergio Garcia, however. Held back on Friday by a mechanical failure and on Saturday by a damp track that affected his setup adjustments, he started from 22nd on the grid. A series of difficulties during the race ultimately relegated him to 24th place.
With this race, the Moto2 World Championship bids farewell to Europe for a while, beginning a series of races that will take the teams to Asia and Australia. The next Gran Prix is scheduled for 2–4 October in Japan.
