Alonso Lopez reaffirmed his status as one of the category’s top riders, while Sergio García showed significant signs of improvement during the series of races in France, Catalonia and Italy.

It has been a busy month for Team Italjet Gresini Moto2, with three Grand Prix races across Europe. After back-to-back races in France and Spain, the team had just one week to rest before the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.

The French Grand Prix at Le Mans ended on an extremely positive note for the team, highlighted by Alonso Lopez’s consistency and Sergio Garcia’s steady progress. López maintained a competitive pace throughout the weekend, securing eighth place in qualifying before narrowly missing the podium with an impressive fourth-place finish in a race shortened to nine laps. Garcia showed significant progress, securing direct entry into Q2 and his best qualifying result of the season in twelfth place. The young rider handled the wet track well, finishing twelfth and scoring his first points.

During the Catalan Grand Prix weekend, Alonso Lopez had a strong start, posting the third-fastest time on Friday and securing fifth place in qualifying. Despite an energetic start, Lopez finished eighth in the race due to significant rear tire degradation. However, he still managed to earn valuable points for the championship. Sunday was more challenging for Sergio Garcia: starting from 20th position after an unfortunate qualifying session, the Spanish rider had difficulty finding the right pace due to tire management and finished the race in 23rd place.

At Mugello, both drivers secured direct entry into Q2. Alonso Lopez demonstrated his consistency by achieving a strong result in both qualifying and the race, despite a long-lap penalty. Sergio Garcia, who started in eighteenth place following a crash in Saturday’s qualifying session, completed his comeback in seventeenth place. Although he failed to score any points, the setup changes provided valuable feedback on the bike, which bodes well for the next Grand Prix.

After an intense May, another demanding month lies ahead with three more race weekends: the next one is the Hungarian Grand Prix, followed by the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, from June 5–7.
