Despite his promising start on Friday, Lopez’s run came to a stop due to a mistake as he battled with the leaders. Sergio Garcia finished nineteenth, focusing on his race pace in preparation for a comeback in France.
The Spanish Grand Prix ended on a mixed note for the Italjet Gresini Moto2 team. Although the weekend started promisingly, Sunday’s race did not reflect the potential shown during Friday and Saturday’s sessions.
Alonso López was one of the most consistent riders of the weekend, improving in each session. After finishing Friday with the second-fastest time overall and securing fifth on the grid, the Spaniard was in the thick of the action in a race where tire management seemed to be paying off. Unfortunately, he crashed due to a mistake, which prevented him from fighting for the podium.
Sergio Garcia’s weekend was heavily affected by crashes on Saturday. Starting from eighteenth position and having to serve two long-lap penalties, the race turned into a test ahead of the upcoming French Grand Prix. He maintained a consistent pace and finished nineteenth, gathering data to analyze areas for improvement ahead of the upcoming races.
The Italjet Gresini Moto2 team is now preparing for Le Mans on 8–10 May, the first Grand Prix of a very demanding month, with the aim of capitalising on the pace shown at the Spanish circuit and returning to the fight for the positions that matter.
