Encouraging feedback has emerged from Brazil and Texas, with Lopez taking centre stage and the team feeling optimistic about their upcoming European races

A double-header on the American continent marked the end of the first month of racing for Moto2. Two intense rounds: Brazil’s debut on a track that is new to all riders, followed by the usual stop in Texas at the Circuit of the Americas.

The Brazilian weekend held surprises for all riders, mainly due to the track conditions which forced organisers to revise the schedule and postpone qualifying until Sunday morning. Alonso López started directly from Q2 and qualified in seventh place, eventually finishing the race in eleventh position. Sergio Garcia had a more difficult time, starting from fifteenth position and unable to improve during the race, ultimately finishing in sixteenth place.

n Texas, Lopez had an excellent start, earning a place on the front row with a time of 2’05.363, which secured him a third place on the grid that became second due a penalty for another rider. The race was halted by a red flag due to a crash involving multiple riders, which shook things up and forced #21 to finish in seventh place. Garcia had a more troubled Grand Prix of the Americas, starting with some difficulties and ending it too soon with a crash at the first corner that also dislocated his shoulder.

There is now a break of a few weeks, after which Moto2 will head to Europe for an intense spring season, starting with the Spanish Grand Prix on 24–26 April.
