The Italian team opened the 2026 season with Lopez finishing seventh in a race affected by red flags. Garcia demonstrated excellent speed, but crashed at the restart.

The 2026 Moto2 World Championship season officially began at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram. The Thai Grand Prix marked the beginning of an intense year with 22 races on the calendar. This technical and physical marathon will take the teams around the world, wrapping up as usual in November at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia.

The Italjet Gresini Moto2 Team arrived at the first round with a new lineup consisting of two Spaniards: Sergio Garcia #3 and Alonso Lopez #21.

Garcia had a good start, gaining direct access to Q2 after Friday’s sessions. Qualifying was more difficult, and he finished in sixteenth place, however, he took advantage of the laps to refine his riding style. In a race reduced to just a few laps due to red flags, Garcia had bad luck. He crashed at the restart, despite showing good pace, and he also injured his left hand.

It was a contrasting weekend for López, who had more difficulty at the beginning of the sessions but optimized his time to get to know the bike better. He started qualifying in Q1, which did not allow him to advance to Q2, and he stopped in nineteenth position. Alonso managed to optimize his work with the team, staying focused despite the interruptions. He had a comeback race, finishing the first Grand Prix in an impressive seventh place.

The next events will bring Team Italjet Gresini Moto2 to the American continent for the new Brazilian Grand Prix, which will take place from March 20 to 22, and the traditional Grand Prix of the Americas in Texas, on March 27-29.
